Donald Trump's Regime of Retribution and Reward

Donald Trump's intense appetite for revenge has rapidly evolved into a structured system. During the past year, the chief executive's anger and impulses have adopted the shape of government actions in a manner analogous to historical dictatorial regimes. Justice department personnel who fail to comply are summarily removed and succeeded by supporters. Opposing leaders who challenge him face legal action, trial and sanctions. Adversaries have been designated under administration memoranda as “hostile to national interests”, “against faith communities” and “against free markets”, and threatened with prosecution as “extremists”.

Federal Agencies Restructured

Every situation involving prosecution of Trump's enemies and protection for his allies displays its own unique qualities. Yet, despite their particular character, they embody manifestations of what has emerged as a deliberate technique. These episodes are not coincidental. The administration's cleansing of DoJ lawyers and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials, coupled with his placement of loyalists in key positions, began rapidly, soon took on a pattern, and has now been formed into a structure. The justice department and the Federal Bureau have been remade into political agencies under Trump's clear direction to implement his demands. Wrongdoing has been made normal. It represents the system of punishment.

Administration is more concerned with penalizing the chief's alleged adversaries than they are with protecting our country's safety.

Within the System

The beginnings of this mechanism has been revealed in the legal complaint of multiple previous high-ranking law enforcement agents filed in late summer in the federal court in Washington against FBI director a senior appointee and justice department head Pam Bondi for unlawful firing in “a initiative of payback against Plaintiffs for what the accused judged to be a refusal to exhibit proper allegiance”. According to the filing that a former acting director, the former interim leader, recounts a exchange in which the director “openly admitted the illegality of his conduct”.

He had tried to defend FBI agents from being dismissed, the complaint states. Patel told him that “White House figures” – interpreted by him to be the executive branch and justice department – had instructed him to dismiss everyone who they determined as having participated in a criminal investigation against the president. The filing continues: “The director clarified that he had to fire the individuals his leaders told him to remove, because his ability to retain his own job depended on the removal of the agents who worked on investigations involving the chief executive. He noted that there was no way he or him could do to prevent these or any other firings, because ‘the agency sought to incarcerate the leader in jail and he recalls it clearly.’” When Driscoll informed the director he was violating the FBI's own policies, he supposedly said “he understood that and he realized the essence of the swift terminations were probably illegal”.

Extensive Effects

Since his alleged confession to the official, the DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been dismantled and repurposed for his revenge apparatus. Multiple of the agency's top officials were terminated or forced out in the first days of the administration. Approximately 4,500 legal professionals at the justice department have taken a “early exit scheme”. A minimum of seven government attorneys, among them those in the New York office, quit in protest over what they regarded as political interference in abandoning the corruption case against the New York City mayor, Eric Adams, in return for his assistance with his federal agency arrests of foreign nationals. The public integrity section of DoJ, which handles ethical violations, has been reduced to minimal staff. The civil rights division has been severely reduced: the majority of its staff has left. 33% of executives at the justice department have resigned. The section implementing ecological regulations has seen departures of half its leadership.

Incentives and Punishments

Concerning the Adams case, the temporary lawyer for the NY office, she, resigned in dissent against what she described as the “exchange”. The border official, Trump's “immigration leader,” was present as the enforcer with Adams on Fox News to declare: “Unless he complies, I will return in New York City.”. And, another figure, earlier the senior DoJ official and a former Trump attorney, who brokered the agreement, was granted an court role, a possible pathway to the highest court.

His exemption for crimes committed while in power, granted by the extraordinary judgment of the Republican majority on the supreme court, thus blocking his criminal case over the January 6 insurrection and safeguarding his public standing for the national vote, is the foundation stone on which he stands to shield his loyalists. Under these circumstances, he has been freed to authorize wrongdoing. The effect of the supreme court decision saturates his government and the Republican Party thoroughly. Trump v United States has escalated. As Richard Nixon's administration lawyer the figure commented about the Watergate
